Born Orlandrea Jamiel Wilson, in March of 1974, I took a liking to this thing called fiction
writing when my fifth grade teacher Miss Tiller, made us write in journals. I hated it at first. But then one day, the assignment was to write whatever we wanted using thunder, lightning, and rain. That assignment gave me permission to tell lies on paper. And although I got into trouble for the piece of fiction that I came up with, I was forever hooked on storytelling.
I began writing fiction like a mad woman. And the best part was that I could tell a story in no time flat. In school, I would write stories for my friends. I would also get into trouble for writing during class. But I couldn’t help myself, and no one was safe from one of my stories. Whether it was my crush, someone else’s crush, or someone I couldn’t stand, I always found a way to get them into a story. I even wrote stories about celebrities. If New Edition could only read some of the stories I came up with about them…
In 2005, three years after the birth of my daughter, I wrote and published two short stories and one novel. When I am writing, I am no longer in my world. When I am writing, I am in the world of my characters, and sometimes find myself living vicariously through some of them at times.
I often say that drama begets creativity… So I welcome you to my drama.
Enjoy
